The True Original

Our Main Mouse just turned 90! And he celebrated in true original style.

So I figured I’d celebrate in some Mickey style too.

Hey Mickey, just calling to say you’re so fine, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

“I only hope that we don’t lose sight of one thing – that it was all started by a mouse.” – Walt Disney

Almost every store I know did a #Mickey90 collab this year, and it’s been EPIC. No one but Mickey could pull off a worldwide celebration like this.

So I gathered a few of the pieces I got this year, and put together nine last minute wearable looks for the nine wonderful decades of Mickey’s life.

1. Who’s the leader of the club

Kicking it off with a classic. Here’s some everyday Mickey style for you. What I love about this all over print jacket (and most of the items on this list), is that it can pretty much be paired with anything. Even in fashion, Mickey inspires us to create and have fun. And this outfit is just that for me. FUN.

  • All over print Mickey jacket: Forever 21
  • Jeans: Old Navy
  • Shirt: Gap
  • Mickey bandana: Daiso
  • Belt: Uniqlo

2. The 411

Nothing like overalls, bright colors, and backwards baseball caps to throw me right back to the 90’s. This trippin’ varsity jacket called for nothing less.

  • 90s Mickey jacket: Forever 21
  • Dungarees: H&M
  • Shirt: Gap
  • Mickey cap: H&M

3. City Slicker

Taking Mickey style to the streets in these amazing Mickey mom jeans. Paired with a suede moto jacket and my favourite Mickey beret, I’m pretty much ready to paint the town Disney.

  • Mickey jeans: H&M
  • White shirt: Mango
  • Suede moto jacket: H&M
  • Mickey beret: Forever 21
  • Belt: Uniqlo

4. It’s off to work we go

Who says you can’t wear Disney to work? The key is to keep it simple. So I just paired my Mickey sweater and (sorta) subtle Mickey purse with a more grown up version of a #rockthedots skirt – and it’s a guaranteed fix to any stressful work day.

  • Mickey sweater: DIY
  • Quilted Mickey crossbody: Primark
  • Pleated skirt: H&M
  • Belt: Uniqlo

5. As If

Total Cher vibes, amiright?

Nothing says Mickey to me like a bright, beautiful pop of red. And that Mickey schoolgirl skirt is so subtle, and so versatile, I’ve been reaching for it almost every week.

  • Mickey schoolgirl skirt: Forever 21
  • White button down: Zara
  • Red cardigan: Uniqlo
  • Mickey mini satchel: Typo

6. Fallin into Disney

Granted, there is no fall in the Philippines. But doesn’t this sweater make you want to snuggle up in a chair with hot cocoa and a Disney movie? It’s so cozy and soft that it only made sense to pair it with my burgundy jeans. And just look at those adorable sleeves!

  • Mickey sweater: Bershka
  • Burgundy Jeans: Uniqlo

7. I’ve Got Sunshine

Out of all the outfits I put together this is probably the one I would most likely use on a rope drop to fireworks kind of day at the parks. It’s light, it’s comfortable, and it’s as bright as a sunny Disney day.

  • Mickey cropped top: Disneyland
  • Paper bag jean shorts: Cotton On
  • Yellow jacket: gifted

8. La Vie En Disney

Feeling a little French (and a little like a chef) in this monochromatic, houndstooth ensemble. I’d totally wear this to Paris – and not just in Disneyland.

This button down is probably my favourite piece from the entire #Mickey90 range. It’s adorable, elegant, and oh so magical. And my Mickey barrel bag has definitely become one of my wardrobe staples.

  • Fab 5 button down: Forever 21
  • Mickey bag: Loungefly BoxLunch Exclusive
  • Belt: Uniqlo
  • Black cravat: from a Flamenco costume

9. Birthday Suit

When Mickey throws a party we’re all invited. So of course I had to end it with a classic pair of ears, balloons, adorable overalls, and a big old smile for the Mouse that started it all.

  • Mickey overall dress: Forever 21
  • Mickey mini satchel: Typo
  • Mickey ears: Disneyland
  • Striped turtleneck: H&M

For ninety years Mickey has inspired countless lives through music, film, art, and even fashion with one simple purpose – to make people happy. And indeed he has. All it takes is those three little circles to make people smile. Three little circles to continuously change the world for the better.

Thank you for 90 years of magic Mickey.  Here’s to you Pal.
