Truly Magical: Disney Villains Disneybound Lookbook

Just a few nights more til the spookiest night of the year!

Okay, I’ve said this before (so please don’t kill me) – I’m not big on Halloween. I know. The girl who dresses up for everything isn’t into what is pretty much the biggest costume party on earth.

It’s just, Halloween was never really a big thing in the Philippines. For us, as soon as what we call the -ber months hit (SeptemBER, OctoBER – you get the idea), it’s basically Christmas. Malls play Christmas music and have Christmas trees up by September 1st. From then til January (yes you read that right), it’s basically one long Christmas party full of evenings of eating, hanging out with friends, lots and lots of family reunions, and did I say eating yet? Eating. That’s something I’ve always loved about the Philippines. Our love for all things Christmas. But that also meant that I never really grew up with Halloween.

I think it was only in college that I really started going to Halloween parties, and even then I never went for anything scary costume-wise (I am not a fan of scary movies lol). The closest I can get to that is wearing a Disney Villain inspired look instead.

The Basics: Maleficent (Style to Bound to Cosplay)

Maleficent: Mistress of Evil opens today!

Am I excited? Truthfully, not so much. I know, shocking right?

See, I wasn’t really a fan of the first movie. The plot felt pretty forced to me, especially on the heels of Frozen. Maleficent breaking the curse was predictable at best. I didn’t enjoy the dumbing down of the 3 fairies, and my biggest complaint – she didn’t turn into a dragon, which was the coolest part of the animated version for me growing up.

Now this isn’t meant to be a review, but after seeing the trailers I’m not sure how much more they can do with this plot. But because it’s Disney, and because it’s me, I’m obviously going to give it a chance anyway. Who knows, they might end up giving us something special.

So in honor of its release, I decided to base this month’s Style to Bound to Cosplay (SBC) blog on Maleficent – who despite the live action I still believe to be one of the most badass villains ever.

Disney Capsule Wardrobe: Halloween Edition

It’s Halloween month!

I’ll admit, I’ve never been one for Halloween costumes – not the scary ones at least. In fact, the very first costume I remember picking out for myself was Pocahontas (comment below if that’s something you want to see lol) I always went for the Princess gowns and Elven dresses growing up. And a witch’s costume for me only meant one thing: Hogwarts robes.

So it comes as no surprise that I couldn’t really come up with a true Halloween Capsule Wardrobe for you. Not in the orange and black, skeletons and bats, spiderwebs and skulls sort of way at least. But in the Disneybounds sort of way instead.

What is Disneybounding?
If you’ve missed my last blogs and still don’t know what that means, it’s creating character looks by using elements like colors/placement of colors and accessories without actually wearing the character’s costume.

So if you’re the type of person who:

  1. Doesn’t want to wear a full costume for Halloween but wants to come as a Disney character,
  2. Wants to keep things both affordable and comfortable,
  3. Has a ton of Halloween parties coming up but doesn’t want to spend too much time planning/prepping for them

Read on.

Disneybounding with Pups: Cinderella with Jaq and Gus Gus

I think an introduction is in order.

For those of you who have been following me on Instagram and on this blog for a bit, you’d probably know these two already. These are my mini dachshunds, Koko and Krunch – named after the cereal, yes. Lol.

IMG_6803.JPG

KOKO is my Princess (the smaller one that looks like a stuffed animal lol). She’s officially my first dog, since all the ones that came before her were more my brother’s or my dad’s. But because she was basically raised by me, she is a Disney Princess dog. She had a Disney Princess bowl and a Disney Princess bed growing up, so naturally, she acts like a Disney Princess too. She can sit on my lap and cuddle the entire day without getting bored or agitated, she hardly ever runs or barks because she’s a lady, and she never wolfs down food or slurps her water because that would be uncivilized lol. All she wants in life are gentle hugs and dainty kisses.

KRUNCH (the little furball) is quite the opposite. He’s like our family clown in the best way possible. This guy can never sit still. He loves playing ball (but doesn’t like returning said ball to continue playing ball). He loves chasing after everything and everyone, and will follow you everywhere (including the bathroom) just to make sure you make it there safely. Then he’ll get distracted by something and leave you just as quickly lol. There hasn’t been a day in his life that he hasn’t made me laugh out loud for one reason or another, and he will never, ever stop asking you for belly rubs.

Katsie Disney Style: Affordable Disney (Cotton On)

I cannot believe that a month has passed since my first Affordable Disney blog!

If you’re just tuning in now, let me do a quick little recap of the 3 blog series you can now look forward to every month:

  • Disney Capsule Wardrobe (DCW) – where I style 10 clothing items into 20 Disney outfits
  • Style to Bound to Cosplay (SBC) – where I take inspiration from 1 Disney movie or character and style looks around them in the 3 types of dressing in Disney: (as the name suggests) Disney Style, Disney Bound, and Cosplay
  • Affordable Disney (AD) – where I take 1 locally purchased Disney piece, and style it 5 different ways

Last month, I talked about how difficult it sometimes gets to feel left behind when it comes to new Disney merchandise releases. Although I don’t particularly consider myself a Disney collector of anything (not bags, nor ears, nor figures), sometimes I do want to hop on the trend train and pick up the latest ear color craze as soon as hits the shelves.

Unfortunately that isn’t really easy for me to do seeing as how I live in the Philippines. But as I’ve said before, there are options all around if you just take the time to look. And if anything, it does push me to be more creative. I make most of my Disney park outfits from scratch, and I try to make sure that I only wear what truly makes me happy – things that make me feel like, well…me.

Truly Magical: My Beauty and the Beast Lookbook

My favorite Disney movie turns 28 today!

And just like a tale as old as time, you guys know by now that I always celebrate these magical occasions through one very magical way – dressing in Disney.

IMG_9767.jpg

I know 28 isn’t exactly a milestone number (unless you’re Emma Swan – shout out to my fellow Once Upon a Time fans out there!). But because it’s my favorite movie, I thought I’d honor this day anyway. So I picked out characters we all know and love from this classic film and put together a few Disneybounds for you.

And now, I invite you to relax and pull up a chair, as I proudly present, my Beauty and the Beast Lookbook.

The Basics: Belle’s Ballroom Dress (Style to Bound to Cosplay)

As promised, my regularly scheduled Style to Bound to Cosplay (SBC) blog for September is here! And since it’s Beauty and the Beast’s anniversary month, and it also happens to be my favorite Disney movie of all time, this is actually already the second SBC blog I’ve done. You can read the first one I did on Belle’s Celebration Dress here.

For this blog, I chose this take on Belle’s iconic yellow gown, also from the live action version of the classic ballroom scene.

“Ever just the same, ever a surprise, ever as before,
and ever just as sure, as the sun will rise”

The Basics: Belle’s Celebration Dress (Style to Bound to Cosplay)

Surprise! A blog on a weekday? For Beauty and the Beast, mais bien sûr!

I was feeling particularly inspired for my favorite Disney movie’s anniversary month, that I decided to do an additional last-minute Style to Bound to Cosplay (SBC) blog featuring one of the most beautiful dresses I’ve ever seen on film – Belle’s Celebration Dress from the live action movie.

Disney Capsule Wardrobe: Work Edition

Let’s face it – none of us are really able to wake up with a smile and a song, and whistle ourselves to work everyday. For most of us, weekday mornings mean half-open eyes and wishing we had woodland creatures to help us get dressed. Life can’t be a fairytale all the time (especially when you’re trying to adult lol). But that doesn’t mean we can’t make it just a bit more magical.

If you’ve been following me for a bit, you’ll know by now that when I need a quick magical fix it usually means one simple and wonderful thing: Disney Style.

IMG_3624.JPG

So for this month’s installment of my Disney Capsule Wardrobe series, I decided to show you how to style 10 items in 20 different workday ways. That’s a whole month’s worth of Disney work outfits that can fit in one little bag. Whether you’re off to a business trip, or you just like to plan ahead, these style ideas could not only save you some money, but some much needed time (for some extra sleep and a nice cup of coffee) as well.

Katsie Disney Style: Affordable Disney (SM Department Store)

The FOMO is real when you love Disney as much as I do, and also live in the Philippines. We don’t have a Disney park here, not even a Disney Store. Online shopping is also difficult. Even though Amazon, Etsy, and stores like Boxlunch Gifts deliver internationally, most of the time the shipping cost to Manila is larger than the cost of what you’re buying.

It can get pretty disheartening sometimes, but as I’ve discovered in my Disney style journey – there are options all around if you just go out and look. All it takes is faith, trust, and pixie dust. And a little resourcefulness wouldn’t hurt either.

IMG_3093.JPG

Ever since I started making an extra effort to seek out Disney clothing, I also started to notice that I actually encounter at least one person a day wearing a Mickey Mouse shirt. I kid you not. It’s pretty amazing how far Disney’s reach is, that I see people of all ages wearing Disney every single day in my little corner of the world. It also made me wonder – where do people buy them?

So I did some research and decided to start another little monthly blog post for you. To help out my fellow Filipino Disney fans, as well as friends who are visiting Manila –  I’m going to feature one brand that sells Disney apparel per month. And to keep things both accessible and affordable, I will style it in 5 different ways to show you how far one Disney item can go.
