Disney Princess Bounding
Inspired by my recent trip to Disneyland, I’ve discovered the fun and creative art of Disneybounding – where you take inspiration from Disney characters – whether it be colors/placement of colors, hairstyles, makeup, and even the character’s personality, and create an outfit that you could wear everyday. I found this particularly interesting because I love inserting a little magic in everything I wear.
So for those of you who want to:
- put Disney in your everyday outfits
- dress like a Disney character in Disneyland/Disneyworld but are above 14 years old
- do Disney on a Budget
- go to work as Belle but can’t fit in your office elevator in a ballgown
- dress up as a lowkey Disney character for Halloween
This is for you!
Disney Princess Bounds
For my first Disneybounding post, I’m doing all the Disney Princesses! Since the idea was to keep it practical, wearable, and on a budget, everything I used I grabbed from my own closet!
Snow White
Since I didn’t have red bow, I used a bandana. And to keep up with the
Rosie the Riveter Snow White look, I’ve got the blue linen top, the yellow skirt and the white pumps. Kinda 50’s and kinda brighter than I’d normally go for, but I’d definitely wear this out.
- Blue linen blouse: Gap
- Yellow skirt: Zalora
- White pumps: Payless
Cinderella
Because she’s the most Princessy of all the Princesses, I gave her the powder blue tulle skirt, the lace, and the Cinderelly top knot. As a nod to the live action version, I’ve also got clear pumps with butterflies on them.
- Tulle Skirt: DIM (Did it Myself)
- White off shoulder cropped top: Topshop
- Clear pumps: Ellie Shoes
Aurora/Briar Rose
Since I couldn’t decide to make it pink or make it blue, I decided to make it neutral with her Briar Rose outfit. Though this is bordering on cosplay, I think the black top over the white shirt is very 90s now. Added the belt to keep it modern.
- White shirt: Old Navy
- Black tube top: Zara
- Grey Skirt: Uniqlo
- Black sandals: Rubi Shoes
- Black belt: Uniqlo
Ariel
Not into the seashell and scales look unless I’m wearing it out to the ocean, so I went with Ariel’s land outfit. Another 90’s/now look, but if I had a lighter denim blue skirt, this would work much better. Love how modern this is with the ankle boots.
- White shirt: Old Navy
- Black tank top: Target
- Denim Skirt: Forever 21
- Black belt: Uniqlo
- Black ankle boots: Call it Spring
Belle
For my favorite Princess, I’ve got two bounds.
For her provincial dress, I’ve got a white collared shirt, a blue and white linen skirt for her skirt and apron, and another live action movie nod, espadrille shoes (like the one Emma Watson wore during the “I want adventure” scene) The linen is inspired by the live action fabrics as well.
- White collared shirt: Zara
- Blue and white striped linen skirt: Uniqlo
- Tan Espadrilles: Spain
For her yellow dress, a simple off the shoulder floral number with her live action rosetree necklace.
- Yellow dress: Mango
- Brown belt: Mango
- Tan heels: Aldo
- Mini rosetree necklace: Bijoux de Lou
Here’s a closer look at that necklace, and a guest appearance by my friend Chip:
Jasmine
I would have totally done the harem pants if I had them in that color. Alas, all I had was this dress. I got the sleeves right though! And because I’m not an earrings type of girl, I wore gold bangles instead. Also found a bib necklace that was very similar to hers, and wore a belt to take the place of the exposed midriff. I love how the dress looks sheer (it’s not) so it really captures Jasmine’s flowy look.
- Turqoise Dress: Zalora
- Gold bib necklace: Stradivarius
- Gold bangles: Morocco Pavillion in Epcot, Disneyworld
- Brown belt: Mango
- Gold and brown sandals: Grendha
Pocahontas
This may be my favorite Disneybound, just because I never would have put these things together. But when I did for Pocahontas I absolutely loved it. I’ve got the mixed fabrics, suede and leather in different shades of brown, ankle boots and even a turqoise dreamcatcher necklace that I got 10 years ago at a stall in New Mexico. Perfect!
- Tan suede tank top: Massimo Dutti
- Brown leather skirt: H&M
- Brown suede leather booties: Bershka
- Turquoise Dreamcatcher necklace: New Mexico
Mulan
Here’s another one I’m particularly proud of. Because Mulan is such a bad ass, I don’t think she’d waste time on a flowy top or a long skirt in these modern times. So I put her in a leather jacket, a chill top knot, a comfy top and white kicks to represent the white in her skirt. Love how the unusual mix of colors actually works.
- Pink leather jacket: Stradivarius
- Blue shirt: Uniqlo
- Maroon skirt: H&M
- White kicks: Adidas Stan Smiths
Tiana
Because she ain’t got time for messing around, I’ve got her in army green joggers, a practical anorak, and a messy ponytail. Love the pop of yellow. And I love how this is actually closest to what I normally wear everyday. Comfort ftw!
- Anorak jacket: Topshop
- Yellow shirt: Stradivarius
- Army green joggers: Cotton On
- Tan ankle boots: Bershka
Rapunzel
The ultimate flowerchild. This was my favorite style when I was younger. Perfect for hot days where you still want to feel like a Princess. I’ve got the pink cropped top and purple maxi skirt, the brown leather satchel to represent that bag Flynn/Eugene put her crown in, and topped it off with a flower crown instead of the hundreds of flowers she put in her long blonde hair.
- Blush bell sleeve cropped top: Forever 21
- Purple maxi skirt: (Actually a Flamenco skirt)
- Brown belt: Mango
- Flower Crown: DIM (Did it Myself)
- Brown leather satchel: Florence
Merida
The last Disney Princess so far. Couldn’t achieve that much volume in my hair, but I did try to curl it as best as I could. Then the green dress and the plaid top tied around my waist to represent her Scottish roots, brown combat boots for hiking up mountains and shooting arrows, and a brown bag to take the place of her quiver.
- Green Dress: Zalora
- Plaid Button up: Gap (actually someone else’s)
- Brown combat boots: Payless
- Brown crossbody: Massimo Dutti
Minnie Mouse
And as a little bonus, I’ve got the girl who started it all. A Princess in her own right.
- Cutout polkadot dress: DIM (Did it Myself)
- Minnie Ears: Disneyland
- Mickey Bag: Loungefly
- White Pumps: Payless
