Summer Disney Style: Sunny and Yellow

Just came from a short trip to the Happiest Place on Earth! Went to Hong Kong for a business trip, in my company blazer and monochromatic clothes – but in my suitcase were brightly colored tops and sparkly ears lol. I wouldn’t normally schedule any kind of park trip in the height of summer, where it goes from scorching hot to scorching hot with rain every hour, but schedules aligned, so off to Disney we went.

Truly Magical: Lion King Lookbook

It is time. The mane event draws near! The Lion King hits cinemas in just a few days!

The excitement is so real, that this is the second #KatsieDisneyStyle Lion King style blog I’ve done in preparation for the movie. (You can find the first one here)

IMG_0145.JPG

This time, I decided to do something a little different. Instead of styling a Lion King t-shirt like I did in the first style blog, I styled 3 outfits themed to the movie. After all, you don’t have to wear something as obvious as a character t-shirt to celebrate your Disney style. Sometimes all you need is a little imagination and pixie dust – and in my case, ears.

#KatsieDisneyStyle: 1 Lion King Shirt, 3 Different Ways

After 25 years, we are just a few lion sleeps away from hearing Simba’s roar back on the big screen. And just as how I’ve felt with every Disney live action remake so far, I am both nervous and excited – especially for this one.

The Lion King was such a big part of my childhood – its music absolutely unforgettable, its dialogue superb, its storyline the first of its kind. Plus it’s my dad’s favourite Disney movie – which pretty much made it a Sunday morning staple growing up.

IMG_9673.JPG

This movie is a true Disney classic, so I was really skeptical at first. How exactly would you make a “live action” film about talking and singing lions? But when the first trailer dropped, my jaw did too. It looked visually stunning! (I mean, did you see that gorgeous Rafiki clip with the fireflies??) And I am looking forward to seeing how Disney and Jon Favreau have made this masterpiece into a familiar, yet brand new work of art.

Lion King merch has started to line store shelves in anticipation of the big day, and instead of buying all of them (though believe me I was tempted to), I decided to do something more practical. I got one shirt instead, and figured I’d show you 3 different ways to style it. So for those of you who are looking for some outfit inspo for the Lion King premiere, keep reading.

ColourPop’s Disney Collections: How to Wear It Like A True Disney Princess (or Villain)

ColourPop has done it: Disney makeup for Disney grown ups. It’s like Disney Princess dolls for adults, except the doll is now you lol.

I was never much of a makeup fan. In fact, I only learned and started to wear makeup in my late 20s. And even when I really got into it, up until recently I’d only been using one small tray of makeup everyday. That was until ColourPop decided to release two amazing Disney collections, and my sad little lonesome makeup tray became a magical makeup drawer.

Since there is both a Disney Princess collection and a Disney Villains collection, I decided to put together a Disney Style outfit and a makeup look for each.

Truly Magical: Toy Story Lookbook

Toy Story has such a special place in my heart. Although I am a big fan of the series myself, it is the movies’ connection to my little brother that I cherish most.

“I can’t stop Andy from growing up. But I wouldn’t miss it for the world.”

When my brother was a kid, the only movie he ever wanted to watch was Toy Story. For about a year, he would ask me to rewind that VHS for him at least thrice a day. (Yes young ones you read that right – VHS. Go google it lol). I practically memorized every single scene and have probably said the words “You. Are. A. Toy” more times than Tom Hanks himself. Heck, I even used Woody’s speech in one of my school monologues and I got an A without having to lift a finger. That’s how often Toy Story was played in our house. And funnily enough despite of that, I never got sick of it.

IMG_9886.jpgIn fact, our entire family loved it – so much so that we’ve watched all three movies together several times throughout the past two decades, even without my brother’s insistence.  Continue reading

Truly Magical: Tarzan 20th Anniversary Lookbook

If you feel old reading that title, then you probably know that Tarzan is one of Disney’s most underrated films. It doesn’t really get the love it deserves. The characters are beautifully written, the story is hilariously – and at the same time heartwarmingly told, and the music by Phil Collins is breathtaking. What’s not to love?

So today I’m giving it all the love it deserves by paying tribute to one of Tarzan’s most interesting characters: Jane Porter.

Jane7.jpg

Before relatable characters like Rapunzel and Anna, there was Jane Porter from Tarzan. The kooky but kind, loud but sweet, unladylike lady Jane.

“And I was SAVED. I was saved by a flying, wild man in a loincloth!”

Disney Prinsesa: My Disney Princess-inspired looks for Philippine Independence Day

Growing up as a young Filipina, there was not a single Disney Princess that looked like me.

But I always found something I could relate to in each of them – qualities, morals, and values that I could find myself in even with my brown skin. Disney always made me feel like a Princess not because I looked like one, but because I was taught to dream like one. And though Disney always got the inside covered, I have always wondered about the outside – what would a Filipina Disney Princess look like?

“When you’re curious, you find lots of interesting things to do.” – Walt Disney

Today we celebrate Philippine Independence Day. And I’ve decided to answer this question by combining what I’ve related to most in these beautiful characters with both Disney Princesses’ and Filipino style.

Endgame

It’s almost time.

I’ve finally finished my MCU marathon (in chronological order), to prepare myself for the end of an epic era. To be honest, I still don’t feel like I’m ready to say goodbye, but after revisiting everything, I have to applaud Marvel (and Disney obvs) for creating such an incredible and beautiful universe. And of course, I have to give a standing ovation for our dearest king, Stan Lee. Excelsior!

IMG_5787

If I stop and think about the gravity of it all I actually end up crying, so instead of mourning I decided to celebrate the MCU in my own little way – Disney Style. For the past week, I have been Disneybounding the original Avengers – all from my own closet. No shopping. No borrowing even. I have to admit it was pretty challenging, but really fun.

If you don’t know what Disneybounding is, it’s when you dress like a certain character by incorporating colors/placement of colors instead of wearing the actual costume. This makes it easier to dress like a kid without non-believers ever finding out that you’re basically a Disney character traipsing around the real world. *wink*

Pink Princess

Saved the best for last on this Tokyo Disney Style Blog.

I’ve been going to Disney in pink ever since I was a child. And before rose gold and millennial pink were a thing, blush was the color I’ve always felt prettiest and most confident in. So now that I’m older, I make sure that there is always at least one pink day – especially on my birthday trips.

And let me tell you, I think this may be the most pink outfit I’ve ever worn. And this includes the outfits my mom and I wore on our last Disney trip, which were already pretty extra.

Toontown Bound

Okay, so this next one isn’t necessarily a bound, but more of a Disney style ensemble. It takes me back to those days as a kid where I’d go to the parks in a Mickey shirt and a hat and call it a day. This is what I would call a “ride day” outfit, because it’s practical for a whole day of gallivanting around the parks (not that I go on that many rides lol)
