Truly Magical x Affordable Disney: Up Lookbook

“Adventure is out there!”

But we can’t really go out there right now, so in the meantime I’ll just settle for adventures in here. At home. Lol.

Up celebrated the 11th anniversary of its Philippine theatrical release yesterday. And since I missed getting to go to my Paradise Falls (aka Disneyland) this year, I decided to bring some of that magic to me. (If only we could travel in our respective houses with balloons like Carl, amiright? That way we could still go places and also maintain social distancing – sort of like traveling in your very own quarantine pod. Lol.)

I also haven’t done a “Truly Magical” Disneybound Lookbook or an Affordable Disney blog in a while (will link all of my previous ones below), so I thought it would be fun to hit two Kevins with one stone today by combining the two.

If you’ve never read any of my older posts, my Affordable Disney series is when I take one piece of Disney clothing and style it in 3 to 5 different ways. And my Truly Magical Series is basically a collection of Disneybound (and on a few occasions Harry Potter) Lookbooks that I do for movie releases and anniversaries.

When I was planning the bounds for this post, I realized that I could do all 3 looks with just 1 blouse – a pale yellow button-up top that I got from H&M a couple of years ago. (Unfortunately I think mine is sold out. They have it in white as well as pink and white stripes here, but if you want a yellow one, I’m linking a similar one here).

Russell (and Dug)

For my Russell bound, I styled the blouse with brown paper bag shorts, brown suede combat boots, a lightweight orange scarf, and a yellow beret. It’s definitely a more feminine, grown up version of our favorite Wilderness Explorer, but I loved how it turned out – especially because I have a very special guest for this one:

My own little Dug – my mini doxie Krunch (who I’ve bounded with before for Cinderella and Lady and the Tramp). I didn’t want my little guy to wear the “cone of shame” (because who could put a cone around that adorable head?). So instead I had him wear a thick brown leather collar with gold fastenings. Doesn’t he look absolutely precious? If you look at first picture in the banner up top, he actually looks like he just saw a “SQUIRREL!” Lol.

For Carl, I went with his outfit from when he was a boy.

Using the same yellow top, I matched it with plaid trousers, a brown knit sweater vest, my heeled oxfords, and some large gold frame glasses. I know grandma style is in right now, but Carl is definitely making me lean more toward grandpa style lol. I just love how vintage and elegant his outfits are. AK+-+Rose+Gold+Line

Ellie

And for our lovely Ellie, I also chose her classic outfit from when she was a young girl.

For this bound, I wore the blouse under my blue corduroy pinafore. I also styled it with a pink bowband that I made, and topped it all off with the iconic Grape Soda pin (which is still one of my favorite Disney Park purchases to this day). Ellie always makes me so happy.

I know Up emphasizes seeking grand adventures and exploring the great unknown a lot. But honestly I think its real lesson is the complete opposite.

For someone who loves to visit new places and try new things, this year has been tough. As thankful as I am for being safe and healthy despite the world the way that it is, it still makes me a little sad to see months pass by stuck in the same place.

But this movie and these characters reminded me that every day is an adventure, no matter how small. And every day is a gift, no matter how uneventful. I may not have magical trips lined up for the year, but I can create magic at home by doing the things that I love, spending time with the people who I am grateful to be stuck at home with, keeping in touch with those that I miss, and helping whoever I can in whatever way I can.

This year’s Adventure Book may look a little different, but I am thankful that I am still able to fill up its pages somehow. And I hope in some way, that I can help you fill up yours too.
